The Company's Local History

1934 – Established in 1934 by Paul H. Felts and his wife Rose, the company was started as a hobby and operated part-time during those early years. Paul worked for the Chrysler Corporation and Felts Lock & Alarm until Chrysler left Evansville in the 1950s. The lock shop continued to grow but remained a small, mom-and-pop operation until Paul died in 1973.

1973 – William L. Felts President entered the business after the death of his father in 1973. William previously was an industrial engineer with a canvas manufacturing company. He was a native of southern Indiana but had no experience in the lock industry. Joining him in the business was his wife Anita G. Felts, who was the company's secretary and treasurer.

1988 – Felts Lock Co., Inc moves into a new building at 4000 E. Indiana.

1994 – William L. Felts, Bob Seymore, and Ron Pendley started Felts Alarm Co., Inc.

1995 – William L. Felts purchased Elgee Sales and Service of Huntingburg and relocated to Jasper into a new building. The name was changed to Felts Lock CO.

1999 – William L. Felts purchased Gerding Safe & Lock LLC and moved the business into a newly remodeled building at 10 SE 3rd St in Evansville, Indiana.

2003 – Felts Lock Co of Huntingburg merged with Felts Lock Co., Inc and operated as Felts Lock Co., Inc.

2004 – Gerding Safe & Lock LLC merged with Felts Lock Co., Inc and operated as Felts Lock Co., Inc.

2005 – Felts Lock Co., Inc was purchased by the employees of Felts Lock Co., Inc and Felts Alarm Co., Inc.

2006 – Felts Alarm Co., Inc merged with Felts Lock Co., Inc, and the name was changed to Felts Lock & Alarm Co., Inc.

2008 – Felts Lock & Alarm Co., Inc opens a store in Owensboro, KY, for a total of three locations.

2010 – The Jasper location was moved to the German Township Shopping Center.

2018 – Felts Lock & Alarm Co., Inc closed the Jasper and Owensboro, KY stores and began providing mobile services to their customers.

2019 – Felts Lock & Alarm Co., Inc celebrates 85 years of service.
